Answer: Move

You can cancel your satellite TV service at any time if you move to a new residence that does not have a clear view of the southern sky.  This could be because of buildings, trees or other obstacles that would prevent you from receiving a clear signal from satellite dishes.

Is moving too extreme for you?  Well, you could always temporarily move your address to a friend's residence that has an obstructed view.  While this may seem extreme, it's always good to know that you have options.

British dish TV company Sky, also known as BSkyB, is launching an Online TV service.  This service will allow Sky TV subcribers to access all normal Sky TV channels online through Sky's "Sky Player".

If you're already an existing Sky TV subscriber, there will be NO added charges for this service.

There will also be a stand alone service for Sky TV online.

Sky TV's sees the potential to be the first Online TV (or Internet TV) business.  By choosing to broadcast their channels online over the internet, there potential market grows astronomically.  Instead of being just for inhabitants of the British Isles (63 Million Souls), they now can sell their service globally.

Sky TV is poised to be largest online TV service out there.

SlingBox

One of the easiest ways to watch TV on PC/Mac is through by using a device called a Slingbox.  What is a Slingbox?  A Slingbox is a small device that connects up to your satellite receiver (or cable box).  The only caveat is that you must have a DSL, Cable or other highspeed internet connection.  It uses you're home internet connection to sned your own TV signal over the interent to any computer you want.  You can use your Slingbox to watch TV on any computer in the house or anywhere else that has an internet connection.  If you have a laptop that means pretty much anywhere.

Someday soon the choice between Satellite TV and Cable might switch to a batlle of Satellite TV vs Fiber.  Verizon is beginning to market FiOS TV very aggressively.  This means lower tv channel prices and more HD channels than local cable companies.  Customers will be looking for the best deals if the ecomomy get's tough(er).  Verizon has made FiOS TV the better bargain in terms of price.  Verizon now offers more than 100 HD channels on FiOS TV in the region.
